Cake analogy of seeking Poly

Cross posting* from a blog I have visited a few times. This was the last part of her sentence about Poly relationships which I feel exemplifies the idealising of Poly from those who want it, but do not really know how much of a change Poly would make to their existing relationships.

Yeah if you add more people there will be more tensions and jealousy but that doesn’t make it harder.

Think of your relationship like a cake, it is tasty, fresh and just your favourite sort ok?
Now think of adding Poly to your cake……
.
.
.
.
.

Did you think about a nice fresh cherry? Decoration? A bit of icing writing?

No, another person is a whole other different cake dumped on top of your cake squashing it. until your cake is a messy mix of yours and theirs. It is a new confection entirely, in fact, it is no longer even a cake.

That my dear is Poly and don’t let anyone tell you different. Your cake was your monogamous relationship, adding a new person means you no longer have a cake but something new, something unknown and not just harder but exponentially so. You see that person does not bring just a little bit of frosting to the mix, she brings her whole cake and that changes everything.
So many people think that adding a person would be like enhancing their relationship and are not even prepared for the true fact that their relationship will never be the same. Unless you are prepared for that, do not go Poly.
