Islamic Polygamy

Here is a BBC radio report (25 mins) about Polygamy in Britain, it is totally Islamic of course.. With all the recent publicity surrounding the Americans Mormon Fundamentalists Brown and Darger making waves amongst the Sisterwives community, I am intrgued by the differences between the two types of Polygamists. One striking differences is just the terminology, ironically Sisterwives invokes a more co-operative feeling than Co-wives, perhaps because of the pleasent familial associations, Co-wife seems more like a business partner (Mind you, if more Americans seekers started using the term 'Co-wife' it would certainly cut down on my squickiness with those blasted unicorn hunters with their quest for a "bisexual sisterwife" Ewwwww). So what else does this episode bring up?  Well interestingly the reasons for allowing Polygamy is similar to  fundamentalist Christians who believe in Polygamy, they both believe that Polygamy is allowed but not commanded, Fundamentalist Mormons on the other hand believe that  Polygamy (Plural Marriage) is commanded.  Another similarity is the very destructive male led cultural Patriarchal mindset in the men, making the experience of Polygamy a negative experience for the women, I felt sorry for all the wives featured, they were all so miserable and reminded me of the similarly afflicted FLDS women which is so dissimilar to the experiences we see reflected with the Browns and Dargers.   Anyway,  it was a nice to see something from home for a change but it is a shame it was so negative, frankly the only positive examples I see coming out of this country will be out of the Polyamory community not the Polygamist ones.
